Since Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, I thought I’d share three of my most favorite classic children’s books about love.

1. Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney, illustrated by Anita Jeram – This timeless tale demonstrates it’s not always easy to measure the amount of love between a parent and child. When Little Nutbrown Hare tries to put off bedtime by showing just how much he loves his father, Big Nutbrown Hare responds with the undefinable love of a parent.

2. Love You Forever by Robert Munsch, illustrated by Sheila McGraw – A wonderful, heartwarming story that millions of parents and children love. The story begins as a mother holds her newborn baby boy and rocks him to sleep with a touching lullaby. Through the years, she continues to rock her baby and sing the same sweet song about how she will love him forever.

3. The Giving Tree written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein – While there has been much controversy over this book, it is a sweet, classic tale about the love between a boy and his favorite tree. As the boy matures and moves away, the tree is left alone. When the boy returns, the tree once again proves what it means to love selflessly.

These three stories are all wonderful books that are great additions to any library. The message of each will follow a child well into adulthood.

While there are many other books about love, these are the three all-time favorites that I still love and remember. What about you? Do you have any to add to the list, classic or not yet classic? If so, please share below.
