Have you seen the adorable triplets who are taking the internet by storm? No, well click here for a glimpse. These cuties are totally enamored by their neighborhood’s trash collectors and apparently can’t wait for “garb” day. It appears that the feelings are mutual for the trash collectors who seem just as eager to see their new little friends.

This relationship shows how a simple smile and wave hello can turn into something magical. Too often people look down on others, be it for characteristics such as a job description, social status, skin color, or religion. But these videos, so pure and full of love, erase all of that.

It’s easy to see why they have gone viral in a world where hate has become so rampant.

Videos like these give me hope. Hope that there are still good people teaching their children the core values of life. Teaching them to love blindly, to treat others with respect, and to be kind – to everyone.

They are a great reminder of what is truly important in life.

I’ll admit I cried after watching the first one, then found myself on their mother’s, news anchor Martha Sugalski, Facebook page looking for more. Each video filled me with joy. Seeing the triplets’ excitement grow at the mere sight of a garbage truck and seeing the workers’ faces light up at the sight of the kids.

And to think it all started with a smile and wave hello.

Sometimes we forget how much of an impact such simple gestures can have.

The story reminded me of my sweet grandmother. She spent nearly her entire life in a small town in Alabama for eighty-six years. She greeted everyone, young and old. No one was a stranger in her eyes. She lived near a railroad track and whenever she heard a train coming by, she would go outside and wave to the conductor. She did this nearly every single day, until she became too sick. On the day we buried Grandma, at the age of ninety, family and friends gathered in her yard to celebrate her amazing life. We thought it fitting when a train passed by that day.

But the train stopped.

The conductor emerged and walked across the yard. He said, “I always wondered what happened to that nice lady because after a while, I never saw her anymore. Now I know and I just wanted to pay my respects.”

That image is burned in my mind forever. To think that someone stopped a train, a train, in the middle of a railroad track all because of a simple smile and wave hello!

It’s not too late to start. It doesn’t cost a thing. It doesn’t matter how young or old you are, and it takes very little effort to do. Start with a neighbor you haven’t spoken to in months, or the person who delivers your mail, or even a complete stranger. Just smile and wave hello. You may never know how great of an impact a simple gesture can make.
