On Thursday, in light of my New Year’s resolution to be spontaneous, I signed up for the Society of Childrenβs Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) Regional Conference in Miami the following day.
The conference was amazing! It gave everyone the opportunity to meet writers, illustrators, editors, and agents that were all so eager to share their stories and impart valuable information over the span of the weekend.
Not only did I learn a lot but I also picked up a couple of autographed hardcover picture books that Iβm giving away to a lucky reader!
Well, actually, just one book because I had a momentary lapse of judgment when the amazing Debbie Ohi asked me who I wanted the book,Β Iβm Bored, written by Michael Black and illustrated by her, autographed for. βUm. My kids. Serena and Isabellaβ¦because they often say theyβre bored.β
What? Really?
Yes, I did say that and Debbie drew the cutest illustration for them, which they of course were like, βYou bought us a picture book?β
I seriously had every intention of getting a signed copy that I could give away so I sincerely apologize. I will be more than happy to give it to any one who has a child/grandchild/niece/cousin/friend named Serena or Isabella; or anyone who just doesnβt care and would like a free, autographed copy of a really cute book about a very bored little girl who, after encountering a potato, discovers sheβs not that bored after all.
The second autographed (thankfully not to my kids) book is Me Want Pet! by the equally amazing Tammi Sauer. Itβs a cute story about a little cave boy in search for the perfect pet. Youβll love it and so will your kids!
How can you win this/these book(s)?
Simply comment below and youβll automatically be entered into a random drawing. You can comment anything – your favorite book, your childβs favorite book, what you think of this site, what you ate for breakfast, etc. If anyone is interested in winning I’m Bored, despite not being named Serena or Isabella, please indicate it in your comment below and you’ll be entered into that drawing as well.
Good luck and happy reading!
P.S. All entries must be received by 11:59pm on Wednesday, January 27th.
I love this wonderful new journey you are embarking on!! All four of my kids enjoy reading but my youngest just can’t get enough. He loves books!! Congratulations and I am excited to see what the future holds for you!
Thanks so much, Dory! I’m glad your kids enjoy reading and I love that your little one can’t get enough! What are his favorite types of books?
Both books look really cool!
They really are! Do you want to be entered into both drawings, Becky?
Fun story. Glad you had a great time at your spontaneous conference.
Thanks, Michelle and thanks for entering the contest. Good luck!
I’m so glad you went! (A wee bit jealous too.)
I only checked after you mentioned it on the message boards, so thank you, Marla. It was so amazing! I hope you get to attend yours. It’s definitely worth it. We have another one in June that I’m already looking forward to. π
Me Want I’m Bored <3 Thanks you so very much for a fabulous give-away.
LOVE these kidlit stars! Hope to see you in Orlando, Teresa!
It’s my pleasure, Lynne! Give-aways are so much fun. π I will definitely be in Orlando!
I adore SCBWI conferences! Glad you went!
Me, too, Kirsti! I’m new to SCBWI and the Miami conference was my first introduction. I’m counting down the days until Orlando. π
Both books look adorable with wonderful authors and illustrators! It’d be great to be entered in the drawing for either one π I would love to check out the Miami SCBWI one year – it sounds like you had a fantastic time!
You’re entered, Ariel! The Miami conference was great and if you live in Florida, there’s one in Orlando in June. π
Tammi, Debbie, Michael, and Bob are amazingly talented! These books are delightful!
They truly are, Kathy! Thanks for entering!
Oh wow, thanks so much for including I’M BORED, Teresa! And I’d be happy to send a signed/doodled bookplate to the person who wins I’M BORED. And thank you again!!!! Just let me know via http://DebbieOhi.com/contact.
Wow, Debbie! I will definitely enter you and thank you so much for the offer for a signed/doodled bookplate! That means I can have two winners (and not feel guilty about a book being autographed for my unappreciative teenage daughters, lol) which would be amazing! You’re the best and I’m so glad I had the chance to meet you! π
p.s. Also ME WANT PET! looks amazing. Please do enter me in that draw, thanks!
I love books, as does my daughter, she would love these books! So I’m keeping my fingers crossed π
Thanks for entering, Nerissa and good luck!
Thanks for the contest! I’ve seen Tammi’s book but not I’m Bored! I’ll be sure to ask about it at the library! Della
Hi, Della! I’m Bored is a cute little story that every parent and child can relate to. If you want to be entered into that contest, too, let me know.
I’m a free ‘contestacholic’…..LOL I went to my first SCBWI meeting in Toronto last night. I’m having a blast meeting other authors and illustrators!!! Imagine what it will be like when I’m published. More BLASTING!! lol
Glad to hear, Joan and thanks for entering! Who knows, maybe I’ll be able to give away one of your books soon! π
My kids will love these!
They’re really great books that kids and adults will love, Mandy! Good luck! π
Looks like a great book!! So excited for you!
Thanks, Gina! They’re both great books. Thanks for entering and good luck!
ME WANT BOOKS! I love ’em both!… I am also willing to call my sons Isabella and Serena from now on, if that helps. ha! π
Haha! Thankfully you won’t have to resort to that, Lorian – Debbie Ohi has offered to to send an autographed nameplate to the lucky winner of I’m Bored! How awesome is that?!
Thanks for including ME WANT PET! Ooga! π
Thanks for writing it, Tammi! I’m so excited and I can’t wait to see who the winner is! π
