It’s hard to believe another year is upon us. It seems as though 2015 flew by in a whirlwind of events. A few highlights for me were my daughter’s Sweet Sixteen, finally selling my Grandmother’s house, the Women’s World Cup in Vancouver, my 40th birthday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

I’m sure certain events stand out in your mind, too. Or did your year just fly by in a blur? Was there something you really wanted to do but never quite got around to doing it? Painting your daughter’s bedroom? Organizing the garage? Taking that spontaneous get away to Disney World? Camping out in the backyard with your son?

Maybe you had every intention to start a couch to 5K program but only made it to mile one. Or tried to eat clean but once you saw the “Hot Now” sign illuminated at Krispy Kreme, you just had to make a quick stop…then it all went downhill.

Does it seem like every year is the same? Like we make resolutions that we never quite manage to keep? Maybe we last for a few days, a few weeks, or perhaps even a few months. Or maybe you’re one of the 8% determined, self-motivated people. You make a resolution and there’s no stopping you. I’d like to think I’m one of those people…only, I’m not.

On January 1, I had every intention to start eating healthy, get back into shape so I could drop the few extra pounds I picked up, but…I didn’t.

Instead, I had nachos and wine for dinner, and again the following night. I’ve had M&Ms, pizza, bagels, lattes, and some other stuff that definitely would not be considered clean. As for exercise, does walking up and down my staircase count for anything? Obviously my resolutions to eat clean and exercise are not off to a very good start.

Hopefully you’re doing better than I am.

The good news is that although some of us might not be off to such a great start, we still have 354 days to work with! That’s plenty of time to tackle that couch to 5k, paint the house, finish your child’s scrapbook, clean out the garage, start your own business, write a book, or learn to play the piano. If you’re one of the ambitious 8%, you can even shoot for all of the above!

For those of us who aren’t, we just need to set some goals, write them down, and tell someone (it’s a proven fact that if you tell someone, you’re more likely to keep your resolutions). So here goes mine…in 2016 I resolve to eat healthier, exercise more, be spontaneous, focus on writing, and publish a book.

Now what are your resolutions?
